Editorial Policy
How medical content on Ask Dr. Richard is written, sourced, reviewed and corrected, and what it will never include.
Who writes our content
Medical content on this site is written by Dr. Richard Kowalsky, MD, a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. If anyone helps with drafting or editing, Dr. Kowalsky reviews and approves every clinical statement before it is published.
How content is researched
- Clinical statements are based on current clinical practice guidelines, including the Endocrine Society guideline on pharmacological management of obesity, the AACE/ACE obesity guidelines, the American Gastroenterological Association guideline on anti-obesity medications and US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations, plus peer-reviewed trials.
- Sources are cited on each page and collected on the References page, with links to the publisher, DOI or the CDC.
- Where evidence is limited, mixed or still emerging, we say so.
Medical review
Each medical page shows a “last updated” date. Pages are reviewed at least once a year, and sooner when guidance or drug safety information changes.
Medication content
Medications are described by generic name and drug class. This site does not publish dosing schedules, compounded-drug offers or prices, and it never promises a specific amount of weight loss. Trial results are reported as published averages, with the reminder that individual results vary.
Respectful, person-first language
We write “people with obesity”, not labels. Obesity is a chronic disease influenced by biology, environment, medications and life circumstances, and it is never framed as a personal failing.
Independence and conflicts of interest
This site does not accept paid placements or sponsored content and does not sell products or supplements. No drug manufacturer reviews or pays for content.
What this content is not
Articles are general education for adults. They are not a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and reading them does not create a physician–patient relationship. See the Medical Disclaimer.
Corrections
If you believe something is inaccurate or out of date, please email [email protected]. Confirmed errors are corrected promptly and the page’s updated date is changed.
Use of AI tools
Writing tools may help with drafting and formatting. Every clinical claim is checked against the cited sources and approved by Dr. Kowalsky before publication.
